Public obstacle is being more and more directed to insecticides and their residues in flooring and floor waters. Water - one of many must haves of lifestyles - needs to be saved fresh for guy and the surroundings. half I and II of this publication describe in an authoritative manner all elements of recent research of insecticides in water via the resultant use of hyphenated concepts like GC-AED or HPLC-MS.

Evaporation is a risky procedure. The loss of pesticides on evaporation was systematically investigated [36], and it is undoubtedly reflected in some reports on low recoveries of pesticides eluting early in gas chromatography. The addition of a minor amount of a keeper such a dodecane [36], polyethyleneglycol or OVI0l [37] prevents los ses appreciably and is vital ifthe extract has to be completely evaporated. Transesterification of fluazifop-butyl in the presence of methanol [29], and methylation of coumafuryl and warfarin on evaporating an acidic methanolic extract [38] may occur when the extract becomes concentrated and heated.

The eluent may be fed by a levelling vessel [114] but is usuaHy fed by a pump, which makes the systems easy to automate [114]. The GPC cleanup is sufficient in many instances but fractionated Florisil cleanup was found to give cleaner extracts of soil sampies compared to GPC cleanup for triazines and their metabolites [128], and organophosphates [129]. There are numerous special techniques for selective cleanup. Thus, many organochlorine pesticides such as DDTs and HCHs are stable towards concentrated sulfuric acid, and when a hexane extract is shaken with this acid, most organic interfering compounds are destroyed [130].

Immediately add 30 ml of dichloromethane. Extract the sampIe within two days. 48 M. Akerblom - Weigh the bottle with water. Po ur the sampie, including the dichloromethane, into a separating funnel. Reweigh the bottle and calculate the volume of the water (subtract the weight of 30 ml dichloromethane). - Rinse the bottle with dichloromethane (25 ml) and transfer to the funnel. - Add saturated sodium chloride solution (50 ml) to the funnel. - Shake the funnel mechanically for 2 min. Let phases separate and collect the organic phase in a stoppered E-flask fortified with 5-10 ml of sodium sulfate (pretreated at 760°C for ~ 4 h).
