We conclude by considering how these findings complement existing research on questions related to courageous resistance. We hope that lessons learned from studying such courageous resistance will inspire and empower even more people to act for justice. The Appendix that follows looks at some ways we can apply the lessons we have learned from studying these courageous resistors. Using the analytical models described in Chapter 2, we provide specific ideas for ways that individuals can strengthen the preconditions and networks that support courageous action.

Psychologists believe that people’s early attachments to primary caregivers help lay the foundation for future relationships and are particularly important for empathy and caring.
